HAMILTON: Pakistan have won the Women’s World Cup after a 13-year wait. Pakistan beat West Indies by eight wickets in a match reduced to 20 overs due to rain. Chasing a target of 90, Pakistan chased down the target with seven balls to spare. Muneeba Ali (37) and Sidra Amin (8) were the other wicket-takers for Pakistan. Captain Bisma Maroof was unbeaten on 20 and Omaima Suhail on 22.
Batting first, the Windies scored only 89 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Five batsmen were out for two. The top scorer was opener Diandra Dottin with 27 runs. With this, the West Indies had to win the last match against South Africa by a big margin.
For Pakistan, Nida Dar took four wickets for just 10 runs in four overs. The last time Pakistan won a World Cup was in 2009 in Australia. Even then, the Windies were the opponent. Since then, Pakistan have lost 18 matches in the 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022 World Cups.
