Two more years for DeBrusk in Boston

At the center of talks at the trade deadline, Jake DeBrusk secured his future, as the Boston Bruins awarded him a two-year, $8 million contract extension on Monday.

DeBrusk was at the center of the trade rumors, especially since he was to become a restricted free agent at the end of the current campaign. There is no indication, however, that he will necessarily remain in Boston; he had indeed asked to be traded earlier this year.

The 25-year-old forward has hit the target 15 times and totaled 26 points in 57 games this season. He scored his first career hat trick on February 28 in a convincing 7-0 victory over the Kings in Los Angeles.

Drafted in the first round in the 14th overall by the Bruins in the 2015 National Hockey League (NHL) draft, DeBrusk has amassed 82 goals and 160 points in 310 career games.

Another defensive addition

Days following acquiring Hampus Lindholm, the Bruins once once more added depth to their blue line, securing Josh Brown from the Ottawa Senators.

The Sens got forward Zach Senyshyn and a 2022 fifth-round pick. A conditional seventh-round pick accompanies Brown to Boston.

The 28-year-old is a 6’5″ colossus having played 46 games with the Canadian capital team this season. He is spending the last season of an agreement earning him $1.2 million per campaign.

As for him, Senyshyn never reached his full potential. Having been drafted 15th overall in the 2015 auction by the Bruins, he spent the entire season with the Providence team of the American Hockey League.

The Senators also traded forward Zach Sanford to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2022 fifth-round pick.

Sanford has scored nine times, in addition to amassing eight assists, in 62 games this season.
