The discount chain Aldi is increasing its prices. In the future, customers will have to pay more for around 400 articles, such as the “Lebensmittel Zeitung” reported. If you deduct the variants of the products, there are still 160 products. That corresponds to almost ten percent of the Aldi range.
The extent of the increases varies greatly. A mineral water now costs 25 instead of 19 cents, a bottle of Coca Cola 1.25 euros instead of 1.19 euros. There are bigger leaps in coffee, among other things. With “Amaroy Our Best” the price increases by 60 cents to 4.59 euros. The organic coffee is even more expensive by a whole euro. Other affected products include detergents, frozen products and baked goods.
Price increase at Aldi: Manufacturers put pressure on
The reason for the price increases is the significantly increased price demands of the manufacturers as a result of exploding production costs. So far, retailers have more or less been able to dictate prices themselves. In the meantime, however, they are increasingly running the risk of not being supplied if the higher prices are refused. At Aldi, you want to avoid that as much as possible.
To make matters worse, things are not going particularly well for the discount chain anyway. In recent years, profits have been meager in some cases. There were even isolated losses at Aldi Nord. Apparently, that’s why getting the best price isn’t the top priority at the retail giant right now.
