Xinhua News Agency, Novi Sad, Serbia, March 19 (Reporter Shi Zhongyu) The section of the Hungary-Serbia railway from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, to Novi Sad (Beno section) in the central and northern city of Serbia opened on the 19th. Serbian President Vucic, Prime Minister Brnabic and Hungarian Prime Minister Orban attended the opening ceremony in Novi Sad.

On the same day, the leaders of Serbia and Hungary, representatives of the Serbian government, the Chinese embassy in Serbia, and the railway construction company took the first train following the opening and arrived at Novi Sad Railway Station from Belgrade Central Railway Station, which was welcomed by local residents.

Vucic thanked the builders of the Hungary-Serbia railway at the opening ceremony. He said that Serbia’s high-speed railway was built by “our Chinese and Russian friends” and that the high-speed railway represented the future of Serbia, which will have the most modern railway network.

Orban congratulated the Serbian side in his speech. He said that the good bilateral relations between Hungary and Serbia benefited the two peoples.

The Hungary-Serbia railway reconstruction project is a landmark project of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries. The Hungary-Serbia railway is regarding 350 kilometers long, connecting Belgrade with Budapest, the capital of Hungary, of which 183 kilometers long in Serbia, with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour.

The Beno section line opened this time is regarding 80 kilometers long, of which the Belgrade-Old Pazova section is constructed by a Chinese company, and the old Pazova-Novi Sad section is constructed by a Russian company. After the start of operation, the maximum running speed of the train has been increased from 40 to 50 kilometers per hour to 200 kilometers.
