Some users of Windows 11/10 live a Black screen with cursor following logging in. What’s interesting regarding this issue is the fact that while some users can only access the task manager, others don’t even have that access. If you have access to the task manager, it makes things easier. You see, this is the key because we were going to use the task manager to help us fix the problem once and for all.

Booting your Windows 11/10 computer to a black screen with a cursor can be annoying. If you see Windows 11/10 black screen with cursor before or following login, try these suggestions:
- Disable the Application Readiness Service and see
- Run Autostart Repair
- Troubleshooting in Clean Boot State
- Uninstall/reinstall or update your graphics card
- Use System Restore via Advanced Boot Options
- Perform an in-place upgrade.
Browse the list and see what may apply to you. You can try the suggestions in no particular order.
As a general first step, press WinKey+Ctrl+Maj+B hotkeys to restart your display driver and see if that helps. If not, you can also use Microsoft’s online black screen troubleshooter and see if that helps. If not, read on to learn regarding specific troubleshooting suggestions.
1]Disable Application Readiness Service and see
hurry Ctrl+Shift+Esc to start Task Manager. Tap File > Run New Task. Enter services.msc and press Enter to open the Services Manager.
Now you need to open the service, Application preparation by double-clicking the option. After that, change the startup type to Disabled. Click Apply and then press OK button to finish.
The App Readiness service prepares apps for use the first time a user logs on to this PC. The default startup type is Manual. Disabling this service is known to help.
If the problem is solved, remember to set it back to Manual on the next boot.
2]Run Autostart Repair
Run Autostart Repair and see if it works. When the computer starts and the operating system detects that there is a problem with the files. This will trigger Automatic Startup Repair. If not, try interrupting the boot process three times in a row – because when you do that, Automatic Repair Mode will pop up.
3]Fix issues in clean boot state
Perform a clean boot and try to identify the offending process that may be interfering with the boot process. Clean boot troubleshooting is designed to isolate a performance issue. To perform clean boot troubleshooting, you need to perform a number of actions and then restart the computer following each action. You may need to manually disable one item following another to try to identify which one is causing the problem. Once you identify the offender, you can consider deleting or deactivating it.

4]Uninstall/reinstall or update your graphics card
First press WinKey+Ctrl+Maj+B hotkeys to restart your display driver and see if that helps. Otherwise continue.
hurry Ctrl+Shift+Esc to start Task Manager. Tap File > Run New Task. Enter devmgmt.msc and press Enter to open Device Manager. Once here, you can uninstall/reinstall or update your graphics card driver.
5]Use System Restore via Advanced Boot Options
Boot into Advanced Boot Options and use System Restore. Once there, click on Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore.
6]Perform an in-place upgrade
Perform Windows 11/10 in-place upgrade and see if that helps. Remember to select the option to keep your personal files.
Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Esc not working on black screen
If you can’t use to open Task Manager, you have two options:
- Boot into Advanced Boot Options and use CMD to perform various tasks mentioned above. You can also use System Restore here.
- Boot using the installation media and enter safe mode. Here you can uninstall device driver, disable service, etc.
Once you’re done with your troubleshooting, you can turn off your computer, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back on.
