El Hafidi reappointed as head of Arab Electricity Union

LDuring this meeting, El Hafidi presented the achievements of the UAE during the mandate of ONEE since he was brought to his presidency in December 2018.

During this term, a strategic vision was developed to create a new model for the modernization of the UAE, in order to meet the challenges imposed by the profound changes in this sector at the global and Arab level and enable it to strengthen its role following the example of major international organizations, and supporting Arab companies to meet future challenges related to securing the supply of electrical energy to Arab countries at the best cost as well as strengthening electrical interconnections.

Among the first actions for the concretization of this new vision, figure the realization of a study of restructuring of the Union by an international consulting firm, as well as the appointment of a task force led by the National Office of the electricity and drinking water who supervised all stages of this study.

The main achievements related mainly to the development of a roadmap translated into action plans which led to the modernization of the structures, mechanisms and the restructuring of the Union, as well as the adoption of an effective system of governance, in addition to the reorientation of its missions and its objectives in order to enable it to face the profound changes that the electricity sector is experiencing both at the global level and at the level of the Arab world.

The UAE has succeeded in meeting these challenges despite the health pandemic having had a strong impact on the electricity sector at the global level, pushing companies to take new measures to guarantee the continuity of electricity supply in the best conditions. .

In view of the significant progress made and made within the UAE during his presidency, El Hafidi was re-elected by an overwhelming majority for the 2th consecutive time, President of the UAE for the term 2022-2025, and this at the end of the meetings of the Board of Directors and the General Assembly in accordance with the statutes of the UAE.

The members of the Union expressed their warm congratulations to El Hafidi as well as their commitment to concretize, together, the ambitious projects and make the UAE an organization which occupies a major place within the world electricity sector.
