Barcelona, March 19 (EFE).- The ERC spokeswoman, Marta Vilalta, has criticized the “turn” of the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, following yesterday announcing his support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the Sahara presented in 2007 , and has demanded a self-determination referendum for the Saharawi people.

“Always at the side of the Saharawi people, their rights and their freedom. The solution for Western Sahara lies precisely in guaranteeing the right to self-determination, as the UN resolutions say,” he said on Twitter.

In that same social network, the Republican spokesman in the Congress of Deputies, Gabriel Rufián, has accused the PSOE of “exchanging principles” for compensation yet to be specified.

Likewise, the ERC MEP Jordi Solé has defended that “the final status of Western Sahara, a territory to be decolonized, must be chosen by the Saharawi people in a self-determination referendum (…) which must clearly include the option of independence” .

“The turn of the PSOE is pitiful,” he concluded.
