Porsche has summed up the results of the past year and unveiled its development strategy. In 2021, a new sales record was set: 301,915 vehicles worldwide. The company surpassed the 300,000 mark for the first time and surpassed the previous record of 2019 (280,800 cars) by 7.5%. The largest markets for Porsche are China (96 thousand cars) and the USA (70 thousand).
The crossovers Macan (88362) and Cayenne (83071) remained the bestsellers, although their most successful performance is behind them. And the electric Taycan (41296) broke into third place with a two-fold increase in sales, overtaking not only the Panamera (30220), but also the 911 family (38464), which set its own record. The least divergent family is 718 (20502).
Now Porsche is more profitable than ever: last year it managed to earn 4.04 billion euros – 28% more than a year earlier. And the operating margin increased from 14.6% to 16%. Against this background, Porsche AG is preparing to enter the stock exchange separately from the Volkswagen concern, and in order to increase the estimated value, it has unveiled the electrification program that is so much in demand today.
Porsche Macan crossover confirmed as second electric model second generation: tests of cars have been going on for a long time, and the debut will take place in 2023. This Macan is built on the PPE modular platform, developed jointly with Audi. And in 2025, the premiere of the new junior Porsche 718 family is scheduled, which will also become fully electric. By then, electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids should account for half of the company’s sales.
The main long-term goal is to bring the share of pure electric vehicles to 80% by 2030. This means that both the Cayenne and Panamera will be battery-powered. The Porsche 911 will remain the last model with an internal combustion engine: the company has no plans to replace the icon with an electric car at all. But the appearance of a hybrid modification has been confirmed, and without the ability to connect to a power outlet. This means that the Porsche 911 hybrid will have a small battery and a relatively compact electric suspension, which will not greatly affect the mass of the car. The timing of the release of such a modification has not yet been indicated.
