While prices at the gas pump continue to rise, creating great discontent among the French, some have decided to break the law.
It was on the night of March 14 to 15 that the authorities noted a particular event: a large queue in front of a Total petrol station located in Créteil, in Val-de-Marne. A group of four people nicknamed “The super band” had indeed set up a gasoline traffic.
While some cities market gasoline for more than 2 euros per liter lately these people have been offering it for only 1 euro.
The operation, announced on social networks, therefore attracted a good number of motorists. The time and the name of the pump were indicated on Snapchat to give an appointment to those interested.
The system might be put in place because one of the four members of the group had a professional fuel card.
The others were helping to organize the operation. One of the members indicated to the customers the line to take to fill up, the other filled the tanks while the last cashed the tickets.
Arrested by the anti-crime brigade of Créteil, the “super band” had in their possession 7,000 euros in cash. They were then placed in police custody for “breach of trust in an organized gang”. They might be fined up to 10,000 euros.
