macOS 12.3 update now has a bug

macOS Monterey 12.3, which was open for upgrade earlier, provided new features including Universal Control, but some MacBook users experienced a “bricking” problem following the update. Those involved are all 2021 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pros that have had their bottom plates repaired and replaced. When they are upgraded from macOS 12.2.1 or older, they will encounter problems such as bricking.

The above MacBook Pro users who have replaced the bottom plate will generally encounter two problems when they try to upgrade macOS Monterey 12.3. The first is that the computer is directly bricked and cannot be used. The second is that the upgrade and restart are completed, but the system does not actually The upgrade is unsuccessful, then an iBoot Panic error and a request to re-upgrade are displayed. After that iBoot FW would crash and restart 5 or 6 times, and finally there was a warning that it needed to enter recovery mode.

Faced with this situation, MacBook Pro users say that it is useless to take the computer to the Apple Store for repair. Even if the bottom plate is replaced, it still cannot be upgraded, and it continues to fall into an infinite loop of errors. These users tried various methods, such as direct upgrade, installation through the App Store, recovery mode, etc. All failed, they said that previous system versions might be upgraded and installed normally. At this stage, Apple has not made an official response to the incident, and the 2021 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro that has replaced the bottom plate is not recommended to upgrade for the time being.
