[UN 17th Archyde.com]–Russia’s UN Ambassador to the United Nations, Nevenja, announced on the 17th that it will not vote on the resolution on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine submitted to the UN Security Council on the 18th.
Mr Nebenja said Russia is calling on other directors to “unprecedented pressure” and not support Russia’s own resolutions calling for access to aid and protection of citizens in Ukraine. “We have decided not to seek a vote at this stage, but we have not withdrawn the resolution,” he explained.
Most of the 15 Security Council countries abstained because the resolution submitted by Russia did not include the content of Russia’s responsibility for the invasion of Ukraine, nor did it include efforts for a ceasefire or the withdrawal of Russian troops. It was expected that it would be unlikely to be adopted.
