Apple’s internal announcement leaks that AirPods 2 firmware can be upgraded in-store

At the end of last year, the Apple Store and official authorized service providers were equipped with the AirPods Firmware Updater diagnostic tool that can upgrade the firmware of the earphones for AirPods Pro users. The website MacRumors obtained an internal notice from Apple yesterday that the diagnostic tool can now simultaneously perform firmware upgrades for AirPods 2nd generation.

The biggest difference from the user’s own firmware update, this diagnostic tool allows maintenance personnel to update the headset to the latest firmware version if the update cannot be performed normally, for example, one of the left and right earphones has not been successfully updated, or when the user does not have an iOS device on hand. Currently, AirPods firmware cannot be upgraded manually, and users can only connect it to an iPhone or iPad to have the system update automatically. Under normal circumstances, users put the AirPods in the charging box and connect to the power supply for a period of time, and the update will automatically occur.

AirPods Firmware Updater is used to solve various automatic update failures. It is worth mentioning that the diagnostic tool only supports AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro for the time being, but the newer third-generation AirPods and the highest-end AirPods Max are not supported.
