The decision of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture to return the artist Hussein Fahmy to take over the leadership of the Cairo Film Festival in its next session, succeeding producer and scriptwriter Mohamed Hefzy, was welcomed by the artistic, cultural and media circles in Egypt.
Fahmy was the head of the festival for 4 consecutive sessions between 1998 and 2001.
The artist, Nadia Al-Jundi, said: “Congratulations to the dear friend and the great star Hussein Fahmy, may God help you and keep you in charge, and you were the one who led it and proved your presence during your presidency of the festival before.”
For her part, the artist, Nabila Obeid, congratulated, saying, “The right artist is in the right place.”
In turn, the actress Shahira considered that “the best news I heard is the great star Hussein Fahmy’s assumption of the presidency of the film festival once more… A star who is understanding, good, conscious and educated.”
“I am proud of my four years as president of the Cairo International Film Festival, and I hope to have succeeded with a wonderful team of talented individuals in achieving our goal of raising the festival towards a better reputation, and making it an important platform to support independent filmmakers in Egypt,” said festival president Mohamed Hefzy. And the Arab world has attracted the largest number of cinema lovers, and I hope that the festival will reap its fruits in the future. My sincere congratulations to the great star Hussein Fahmy on his return to lead the first Egypt Festival and all my wishes for success.”
