Jesse Williams, the interpreter of Jackson Avery, has decided to leave Grey’s Anatomy. Season 17 thus marks his last appearances in fiction. The actor reacted to his departure.

If season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy pleases fans with the return of former iconic characters from the series, it also does not hesitate to break their little hearts. This is Jackson Avery, played on screen by Jesse Williams. The actor has indeed decided to leave Grey’s Anatomy following twelve years of good and loyal service. It is in episode 14, broadcast on TF1 this Wednesday March 16 from 9:55 p.m., that viewers discover why the doctor decided to leave Seattle for Boston. This unprecedented also marks the return of April Kepner (Sarah Drew) and her reunion with Jackson.

I am immensely proud of our work, our impact and being able to move forward with so many tools, opportunities, allies and dear friends.

If the actor has decided to leave and devote himself to directing, his character has at least one great outing that will delight fans of the Jackson and April couple. As for showrunner Krista Vernoff, she also reacted to this departure: “Jesse Williams is an incredible artist and activist. Watching her evolve over the past 11 years, on and off screen, has been a real treat. He brings so much heart, so much depth and so much intelligence to his work. He will be terribly missed, just like Jackson Avery – played to perfection for so many years“. Before bidding farewell for good, Jesse Williams will still appear in next week’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy on TF1.
