Actress Sarah Drew (41) was seen on “Grey’s Anatomy” for 209 episodes. She first came to Gray Sloan Memorial as April Kepner in 2009 and stayed until 2018 before returning for a cameo in 2021. Meanwhile, she has not ruled out a comeback recently. But now she told in an interview Insiderthat April’s farewell was initially conceived quite differently. Right in the middle: her serial ex Jackson.
“Grey’s Anatomy” – goodbye too sad
In 2021, April Kepner was only seen in one episode to say goodbye to Boston, where she wants to raise their daughter Harriet with Jackson Avery despite the divorce. She had broken up with Matthew in the meantime. So what remains is fans’ hope that the two will get back together. Drew had to fight for this very hope, because the authors had completely different plans.
She said: “The idea that was given to me was that April was heavily pregnant with Matthew’s baby. Matthew wasn’t home then when Jackson came to suggest April go to Boston with him. Outside there was a storm and jackson had to deliver april’s baby at home and because of this whole experience april decided to bring her entire family to boston with jackson, jesse [Jesse Williams, der Jackson-Darsteller, Anm.d.Red.] and I talked regarding it and thought it would be more satisfying for the audience if they had some hope of a Japril reunion. Jesse suggested that to the writers and the writers agreed – and that’s how the story changed.”
The fans don’t have to bury their hope just yet. Drew had big plans for her character anyway. Together with Jesse Williams (40), she had already designed a whole offshoot. But as is well known, nothing came of it. But maybe it will work out with the return to Seattle.
