Minister Giorgio Jackson completed an intense day in Congress, in the midst of the definitions to determine the legislative urgencies of the Government of Gabriel Boric.
Meetings with the tables of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, intense conversations with parliamentarians from Approve Dignidad and receiving visits at the office of the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
This was the first day in the National Congress of the new Segpres minister, Giorgio Jackson.
The Secretary of State aims to study the projects inherited from Sebastián Piñera, define the urgencies for various initiatives and know the priorities of the corporation’s benches.
The search for agreements in Congress
The minister stayed on the fourth floor of both Chambers and following the talks, said that the Government will combine initiatives already in process, with the objectives of the parliamentarians.
Likewise, the messages that the Executive is already promoting, such as the renewal of the State of Exception in the north of the country.
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Raúl Soto, said that Jackson intends that the legislative calendar and its urgencies be agreed weekly collectively, with the Table and the caucus committees.
For the center-left parliamentarian, it is fundamental, because the correlation of political forces will force agreements to be reached.
The president of the Senate, the socialist Álvaro Elizalde, explained that it was decided that the Upper House will have differentiated room sessions.
In one, only executive emergencies will be worked on, and in others the motions that come from Parliament.
House committees begin to take shape
The dialogues take place while the commissions in both Chambers are taking shape. The deputy of the Communist Party, Karol Cariola, became the first woman in history to be elected president of the Constitution Commission.
The Communist Party also got the Foreign Relations Commission, with Carmen Hertz.
In the Treasury, the administrative agreement was honored and the socialist Jaime Naranjo was elected, and his colleague from the bench, Juan Santana, was voted in Education.
The radical independent Tomás Lagomarsino is the new president of the Health Commission, while the Christian Democrat, Alberto Undurraga, will preside over Labor.
In the Senate there is still no definition. Although there are several quotas already confirmed, some presidencies are still under negotiation, and there are conflicting versions regarding the idea of increasing the commissions from five to seven members.
However, Senate sources told La Radio that the final agreement might be extended until next week.
