Uribe admits that the Democratic Center lost seats because of him

The natural leader of the Democratic Center, Alvaro Uribe Velez, called an extraordinary meeting of his party at the close of the polls this Sunday. This Tuesday the former president admitted during that conclave that, with a live broadcast, that their community is not going through a good time.

“We reduced many seats. The main person responsible for this decrease is me, because of the damage to my reputation,” Uribe said during the conclave attended by elected and current congressmen.

For the legislative period, which starts on July 20, the Democratic Center’s Senate caucus will have 14 seats, five fewer than they reached in 2018 when they got 19 seats.

“When families are poor, they tend to be more united. This is the framework of this meeting. As far as I am concerned, I am going to try to apply a principle of a woman from Santander: much does he who does not hinder”, Said the former president while claiming responsibility for the party’s slump at the polls.

Uribe also assured that one of the failed strategies it was the hasty intention of some of his congressmen to want to jump from the House to the Senate.

Will they fully join Federico?

The meeting, which continues from 2:00 pm this Tuesday, also discusses a possible adhesion of the party in full to the campaign of Federico Gutiérrez, winner of the Team for Colombia consultation last Sunday.

The decision seems sung. This Monday Óscar Iván Zuluaga renounced his presidential candidacy for the Democratic Center to make “the personal decision” to support Federico Gutiérrez, who since his victory in the referendum, with 2,160,329 votes, is emerging as the strongest token on the right.

In the Uribista conclave, Miguel Uribe Turbay, a congressman elected by the Democratic Center, Ernesto Macías and former Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio, have been heard asking their community to join the “Fico” Gutiérrez campaign.

Meanwhile, Uribe insists that whatever decision is made, must be done with caution. “If our party comes out to say that our candidate is Federico, we are going to have everyone saying: ‘of course, the Uribe candidate’”.
