Katiola, March 15, 2022 (AIP) – The plan to fight HIV/AIDS is bearing fruit in Hambol, said the regional director of health and universal health coverage (CMU), Hien Solange, in Katiola.

Ms. Hien specified that the HIV control plan has adopted a participatory approach with the empowerment of communities, grassroots organizations and the involvement of the private sector, involvement of sectoral committees once morest HIV/AIDS.

The major objectives of the fight are to reduce the number of new infections by 50%, reduce AIDS-related mortality by 75%, eliminate stigma and discrimination once morest patients with the disease.

The target populations are sex workers, drug users, truck drivers, men in uniform and adolescents and young girls aged 15 to 24, with the long-term objective of having 90% of the population undergo screening followed by treatment.

According to her, thanks to this control plan in 2010 of 24,000 infected patients, the number of victims rose to 12,472 in 2019 with the taking of ARVs. The challenges to be met are to screen and retain affected patients on ARVs from 2016 to 2020 at the national level.

In Hambol, people who know their serological status by department are in Katiola 97%, Dabakala 67% and Niakara 67% or 78% for the region.

“HIV/AIDS remains a public health problem in Côte d’Ivoire and this requires the involvement of all communities in order to drive this scourge out of Côte d’Ivoire in a synergy of actions”, noted Ms. Hien. , during the installation of the first statutory meeting of the regional committee once morest HIV in Katiola.

MM. Paul Éric and Coulibaly Nahaclan Eugène, respectively sub-prefect of Dabakala and municipal councilor, urged the participants to relay the information wherever necessary in order to improve the well-being of the populations of Hambol.
