Angola seals gas supply deal with Italy – Le Magazine du Manager

Italy has reached an agreement with Angola to supply it with gas following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a war that is forcing NATO countries to free themselves from Russian gas dependence.

By associating itself with the numerous sanctions once morest Russia, Italy is anticipating what the Russian threat in terms of gas might be by multiplying “contacts with other producers throughout the world, to minimize its Russian imports”.

For the moment, the details of the agreement with Italy are not yet revealed. This agreement was reached during a recent visit to Angola by Luigi Di Maio, the Italian Foreign Minister accompanied by the CEO of the Italian public hydrocarbon company.

However, Italy is considering “getting a new natural gas regasification platform, as it plans to increase its imports of liquefied natural gas”.

Energy groups Sorgenia and Iren “said last week that the construction of a fourth LNG unit of 12 billion m3 per year in Gioia Tauro, in the south of the country, was likely”.

Italy also intends to “strengthen imports of Algerian gas via the Transmed gas pipeline, with a capacity of 110 million m3 per day”.
