The coaching staff announced the 12 players who will play the tournament. The squad, which has seven boys over 2m tall, starts with friendlies. Important advances in the use of technologies.
Final stretch for the preparation of the U18 Men’s National Team. After last Sunday’s friendly once morest Pergamino, in which the national team won 99-65, the coaching staff led by Herman Mandole formalized the 12 players who will represent our country in the international competition that will be played from 21 to 26 March in Caracas, Venezuela.
With the aim of raising the stature, without losing competitiveness and trying to take the players to the positions they will occupy in the future, Argentina will present a projection team with 11 players over 1.90m, seven of them over two meters Tall. Three youngsters –two born in 2005 and one in 2007- will give years of advantage over the rest of the competition. In addition, our country will bring to Venezuela a delegation of 18 people including professionals in various areas, something unusual in this type of tournament.
From now on, the squad will remain focused and will play a series of friendlies in the run-up to their trip. Regarding the duel once morest Pergamino, Federico Renzetti, the team’s main technical assistant, clarified: “We went to gain competition rhythm and evaluate where we are in the process. In this type of game you see details to polish, details that haven’t been touched on yet or things that you thought were learned but still aren’t. The balance of the party is positive. We started with defensive mistakes, but the team understood what they were confused regarding and were able to correct it during the same game. We were very good in the fast attack and in the charge of the offensive rebound, which we believe are important things “.
Regarding the continuity of the concentration, Renzetti explained: “We are entering a new phase of preparation. We have the 12 confirmed players, plus the guest player who will be with us until the end of the concentration and we will have Luca Vildoza. As the group was reduced, the loads will also be reduced in time but not in intensity. We are going to take advantage of that time that we train to start adjusting details. We have addressed all the content that we wanted to prepare, but now we have to do it with a greater level of detail and we have to couple one content with another”.
The coaching staff continues to make an effort to raise the bar in the use of technology and is working with Ignacio Collucho, a former player and Big Data specialist, to be able to generate high-precision advanced statistics in a short time for both the team and its rivals: “We are doing an interconsultation that is helping us design our own system to optimize time. We will be able to download statistical data from the official FIBA website more quickly and automatically generate advanced individual and collective statistics for ourselves and the rival. All this to prepare a report that will help the coaching staff to make more objective decisions and to get to know the rivals better”.
Argentina will play a friendly this Tuesday once morest the Boca Jrs Development League team and another on Thursday once morest Obras. In Caracas, our boys will be part of Group B along with Venezuela, Ecuador and Chile. The selected team will open the tournament next Monday 3/21 once morest Ecuador, they will have Tuesday 22 free, then they will face Chile on Wednesday and Venezuela on Thursday. All times are to be confirmed. Once the group stage is over, the top two from each zone will advance to the semi-finals. There are three spots for next year’s FIBA Americas U18.
