Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has slammed the opposition’s move to bring a no – confidence motion alleging mismanagement and financial irregularities. Addressing a rally in Hafizabad, Punjab province, Imran Khan said he did not enter politics to look at the prices of potatoes and tomatoes. His work is to ensure the welfare of the youth of the country. Imran Khan has said that he does not want to achieve anything personally through political activity. Imran Khan said that Pakistan would grow into the best country in the world during his remaining tenure.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections on Tuesday. Pakistan’s general inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), touched a two – year high of 13 per cent in January. Food and clothing prices have more than doubled over the past year. Inflation is also high in the areas of health, energy and transport.

Opposition leaders, including Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Asif Zardari and Shahbaz Sharif, spearheaded the no-confidence motion. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the 11-party Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has warned that the opposition will take to the streets and create chaos in the country if the no-confidence motion fails. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections if Imran Khan threatens them with “impeachment”.
