Chelsea consolidates its position in third place with victory over Newcastle

Kai Haverts scored a goal in the 89th minute, to lead Chelsea to a 1-0 victory over its guest Newcastle United in the English Premier League, on Sunday, in its first match following the British government’s decision to freeze the assets of the Russian club owner Roman Abramovich.

Newcastle had himself been able to move away from the relegation zone further, and he played a strong match and was the best party once morest the European champions before the break.

But with the match ending in a draw, Jorginho sent a long pass towards Haverts over the Newcastle defense, and the German managed to tame the ball skillfully and then fired quickly past goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.

Chelsea consolidated its position in third place with 59 points, ten points behind leaders Manchester City, and the London club appears on its way to finish the season in the semi-finals and qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle is 14th, nine points behind the relegation zone.
