It was not Photoshop: They reveal the “behind the scenes” of the official photograph of Gabriel Boric | Society

The photographers behind the presidential image spoke with Súbela Radio regarding how it was to create the image, which would have been taken outdoors and would not have been retouched by computer.

Days following Gabriel Boric took office as the new President of the Republic, the photographers Paloma Palomino and Valentina Palavecino revealed the details behind his official photograph from the specifications to the fund, the president’s position, among others.

The professionals spoke with turn it up radiowhere they commented that, unlike what many suspected, heThe image did not have a retouch in the background.

In itself, the president was photographed on the coast of Tunquén. Palomino and Palavecino decided on that location following a series of different tests in other parts of the Valparaíso Region to search for the perfect seabed.

The professionals knew that the president did not want the waters “to be totally calm” but that they might “appreciate the movement, the waves of the Pacific Ocean,” they told the media.

One of the ideas of capturing the image in the sea was, according to Palomino, that “in Santiago the sea does not exist”, and since the idea was to portray a decentralization, they saw it as the idea that most connected the ideals of the photo. .

Along these same lines, Palavecino assured that by having the ocean in the background, “we break with the leading role of the capital. The sea also accompanies Chile, it is majestic, it has strength but at the same time calms and transmits peace”.

An image without montage

Another important fact highlighted in Gabriel Boric’s photography was that “we wanted a portrait that showed the geography of the place and It wasn’t a montage.”.

According to Palavecino, the concept of using the sea in the background was “what made the difference”.

But in addition to the landscape that surrounds the president, there were other specifications that they saw as keys: the position of his body and face.

This is a semi profile to achieve a more natural touch to the image.

According to the proposal of the image, “the objective is to create an original photo that break with some elements of traditionbecause the vast majority are very similar, and second, to generate an image that summons groups of people who are not summoned in this type of symbol, as is the case of the sea”.

In any case, the most complicated part was taking the photo outside. The photographers kept an eye on the weather to avoid surprises on the day of the session and they ended up asking for images of the sky from the people of the region they knew.

That it was not clear was what worried us the most and the beach clears late. (…) We wanted to leave as few loose ends as possible” says Palomino.

Finally, the team began to prepare the image following 11 in the morning, not only because of the landscape and the lights, but also because of the constant retouching that the president had.

According to professionals, the retouches were not done by computer eitherbut it was all thanks to the makeup teamwho achieved “the same effect of a face edited digitally,” said Palomino.
