More building permits for apartments than at any time since 1999

The number of building permits last year climbed nationwide for single-family houses by 0.9 percent and for apartment buildings by 2.2 percent. There was a sharp increase of more than a quarter for two-family houses.

This is likely to be partly due to the expiry of the Baukindergeld in the first quarter of 2021, according to the Federal Office. On the other hand, this can also be attributed to the end of the promotion of houses with energy efficiency level 55.
