The accident took place on Saturday, shortly following 4 a.m., along the Chaussée d’Antoing, in Tournai. A young woman, aged 22, was mowed down by a car as she crossed the road on a pedestrian crossing. The car was driving at high speed.
The victim was admitted to hospital, to intensive care, and then underwent surgery during the night. “She is out of the woods but suffers from a broken pelvis. She was also affected at the level of a kidney, ”indicated around 5:00 p.m. Géraldine Vandamme, deputy public prosecutor at the Tournai-Mons prosecution.
After the accident, the driver of the car fled. “Thanks to video images, the driver and his passenger might be identified and were deprived of their liberty. They are currently being heard by the police, ”says the magistrate. At this stage of the investigation, it is not known whether this file will be put to the instruction.
