Pakistan on Saturday requested a joint investigation with India into a missile launch on its soil, which New Delhi says occurred by mistake, and rejected New Delhi’s decision to conduct an internal investigation into the incident, calling on the international community to play the role.
“Such a serious matter cannot be addressed with the superficial explanation, which was given by the Indian authorities,” the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Pakistan is requesting a joint investigation in order to accurately arrive at the facts surrounding the incident,” she added.
India said on Friday it had fired the missile at Pakistan by mistake last week, citing a technical malfunction during the missile’s routine maintenance. New Delhi offered this explanation following warning Pakistan of bad consequences.
The statement of the Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the international community should play its role in spreading stability in a nuclear environment, warning of dire consequences if a misunderstanding from either side leads to an escalation.
