Two murders, in just 16 hours, shake the inhabitants of Laureles

Two murders, in less than 16 hours, have the inhabitants of Laureles on red alert. The most recent victim was Octavio Osorio Urrea, 93, and father of the rector of the CES University, Jorge Osorio Gómez. With a knife, the criminals killed Osorio Urrea and injured his wife and his domestic worker. Civil and government sectors rejected the incident and called for an intervention. The security part is worrying.

According to the authorities’ report, two men entered Osorio Urrea’s house around 8:37 yesterday morning. His goal, in the words of the family employee, a 64-year-old woman, was to commit a robbery. In fact, when she noticed her presence, she was intimidated with sharp weapons and, when struggling with the bandits, she ended up injured.

The employee did not know, according to her account, that one of the assailants apparently reached Osorio Urrea’s room. With several stab wounds to the abdomen and lying on his bed, he was found dead yesterday morning by the authorities. The wife of the deceased, 91 years old, was also attacked.

Colonel José Abdón Galindo Sánchez, operational commander of the Valle de Aburrá Metropolitan Police, pointed out that there is important evidence to find those responsible for the act, and that it is still being verified if they took any element from the place. What has been confirmed, so far, is that the door of the property was not forced. It wasn’t open either.

voices of rejection

In rejection of this attack, the CES University lamented the murder of Osorio Urrea and called for speed on the part of the authorities. “We send a message of solidarity and support to Dr. Osorio Gómez and his family. We urge the competent authorities to clarify what happened in the Laureles neighborhood.”

A similar statement was made by the Governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria Correa, who described the attack as infamous, and expressed that the investigation is progressing with the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office. “The response must be quick and effective, there can be no impunity.”

The mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero Calle, joined the voices of rejection and announced a $40 million reward for anyone who delivers information that helps clarify this new murder that shakes Laureles.

another murder

Just 16 hours earlier, at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nora Luz Carmona Giraldo, vice-rector of the Vision of the Americas university institution, was shot to death on Carrera 78 and Calle 34, between Laureles and Las Acacias. .

According to the testimonies collected by the authorities, the woman was heading towards her house when she was intercepted by the attackers, who shot her repeatedly. Although she was transferred by her relatives to a care center, the resuscitation procedures did not save her life.

Although the murder is still under investigation, the authorities have dismissed the possibility of a robbery. “His professionalism, dedication and delicacy were part of his legacy. We ask that the necessary investigations be carried out to find the criminals,” they expressed from Vision of the Americas.

ask for intervention

These murders are added to the thefts that have been registered in Laureles in the last month. Among the most notorious episodes is the death of an alleged thief, following the intervention of a security guard to help the victims, and a subsequent exchange of fire.

There was also a massive robbery at the Fogata al Carbon restaurant, located on Carrera 70, where an armed man took three cell phones, a bag and managed to point his gun at a child.

The situation is such that, following learning of Osorio Urrea’s death, Mayor Quintero Calle asked the Metropolitan Police for an intervention to shield the inhabitants of this commune from crime. “Increase in cameras, patrols and intelligence.” The institution, for its part, announced that it will work on a shock initiative, in addition to strengthening the plans for undercover agents and anti-shipping.
