The referendum launched by residents of Grand-Saconnex in conjunction with the Nations – Grand-Saconnex tram was successful, with 824 signatures validated out of the 800 required. The Saconnesians will therefore be called upon to vote at the polls soon. Yet according to the state, the outcome of the vote may have no impact on the future of this rail project.

To understand why, we have to go back. In November 2021, the vast majority of elected officials from the municipality of Grand-Saconnex agreed to cede plots located on its private and public domain to the State. Purpose of the transaction: to enable the work of the new tram line to be completed, which will partly pass over these plots. In total, it is therefore 3669 m² land that changes ownership and joins the cantonal public domain.
