Fuel prices: good news at the pump from this Monday, diesel should drop significantly

The president of the Strategic Committee for E.Leclerc centers was the guest of BFM-TV this Friday, March 11, 2022. He announced a further drop in fuel prices, particularly diesel.

Fuel prices have been skyrocketing for several weeks due to the war in Ukraine. A sharp rise has already begun in recent months following the post-Covid economic recovery. Michel Edouard Leclerc made new announcements this Friday at the microphone of our colleagues from BFM-TV and RMC.

A general decline?

On the price of fuels, the president of the Strategic Committee of the E.Leclerc centers described the market as “crazy”, “I am like you, I do not understand it”, he admits. The leader announces a reversal of the market, therefore downwards. “I’m not a real prophet,” he quips. And to announce:A drop this weekend (…) and effective from this Monday of 35 cents on diesel“.

“I remind you that a week ago we were more at 1.93 in average price in France (diesel per liter, editor’s note)”, recalls Michel Edouard Leclerc. Ads that apply to Leclerc, but a drop might well happen also among competitors thinks the boss of the supermarkets.

Price variations that can occur very quickly between service stations. “In a few hours, one station can be more expensive than another. What is needed is that consumers look at websites hour by hour. I’m not saying ‘buy from Leclerc’, I’m saying ‘compare the price’. Whoever has stock will be cheaper,” says Michel-Edouard Leclerc.

Announcement effect or real decline?

A drop already announced this Thursday by the president of the Strategic Committee of the E.Leclerc centers. He then mentioned a reduction of “14 to 15 cents” per liter of fuel from Friday. But this Friday, prices had not yet fallen. Like the Leclerc Saint-Aunès service station in Hérault, which still showed 2.43 euros per liter of diesel this Friday evening (data from the official site Fuel Pricet). Communication blow or real announcement, the next few days will tell us.
