In Switzerland and Liechtenstein, the Federal Office of Public Health FOPH reported 33,754 new coronavirus infections in 71,542 tests on Wednesday. At the same time, the BAG registered 11 new deaths and 146 hospital admissions.
On the same day a week ago, the BAG had received reports of 23,684 confirmed new infections, 150 hospital admissions and 10 deaths. The number of cases has increased by 42.5 percent within a week. Hospital admissions decreased by 2.7 percent compared to the previous week.
There are currently 652 people in intensive care in the hospitals. The utilization of the intensive care units is currently 77.30 percent. 16.30 percent of the available beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients.
In the past four weeks, 5,879.38 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections have been reported for every 100,000 inhabitants. The reproduction number R, which indicates how many people an infected person infects on average, was 1.28 on February 25.
69.07 percent of the population in Switzerland are now fully vaccinated. Another 1.03 percent received a first dose. Of the population aged 12 and over, 78.15 percent are vaccinated. In addition, 41.64 percent of the general population and 76.01 percent of those over the age of 65 have received a so-called booster vaccination – a third or booster vaccination.
