Nouredine Valentin Bongo has been appointed by his father, Ali Bongo, “strategic adviser to the president” of the Gabonese Democratic Party (CEO in power), local media announced on Thursday.
In Gabon, the Gabonese Democratic Party published its new organization chart and proceeded to the appointment of certain party executives in the circle very close to President Bongo, indicated the site “Gabon Media Time”.
“Among the people who appear in this first circle, there is Nouredine Bongo Valentin, the former general coordinator of presidential affairs, who has been appointed to the post of strategic adviser to the president,” said the Gabon Actu website.
On Wednesday, Gabonese President Ali Bongo also appointed several other personalities including Steeve Nzegho Dieko as Secretary General to the CEO, replacing Eric-dodo Bounguendza who was appointed High Commissioner to the Presidency of the Republic last week.
According to the site lelibreville.com, “this reshuffle, which comes just one day following another – that of the government – and which takes place one year before the presidential election is by no means trivial” because President Bongo is preparing to run for a new term in 2023.
The media Gabon Media Time noted, for its part that “these appointments come in a particular context, where the ruling party must defend the record of the current Head of State, especially in the event of the latter’s candidacy for the presidential election of 2023”.
At present, Ali Bongo is not yet officially a presidential candidate for 2023.
Although his camp wishes it, his state of health might decide otherwise.
