The SBS ballot counting broadcast worldview that made the presidential candidate ‘Next Level’ dance

On the followingnoon of the 9th, during the SBS voting for the 20th presidential election, Candidate Seok-yeol Yoon and Candidate Jae-myung Lee danced ESPA’s ‘next level’ diligently. I rode a motorcycle across the desert, and I also rode the short track and disco-fang. It was through the real-time voting information graphic ‘VIPON: Voting Information Processing Online Network’ that symbolizes SBS election broadcasting.

Moving away from cutting and pasting a person’s face photo, for the first time in an election broadcast, a ‘3D scan’ of a major candidate was filmed, and 3D modeling and video data were used to vividly implement the candidates, greatly improving the graphic quality. It was on a different level from the expression of smiling when you beat your opponent and crying when you lose in other ballot counting shows.

Media Today, on the followingnoon of the 11th, through a phone interview with reporter Kim Hak-hwi of the SBS Election Broadcasting Planning Team, we heard regarding the graphic planning and implementation process.

Reporter Kim said that the project began in the fall of last year. It was prepared for 9 months. Reporter Kim said, “SBS’s ballot counting broadcasts have continued to draw attention. There was a lot of pressure to go further.” He said, “When we first started planning, we thought that we should create a biphone with a worldview that differentiates it as a more advanced counting broadcast, that is, ‘biphone universe’ (universe, a specific type of experience world).” told

He continued, “As those of you who have watched the ballot counting broadcast carefully already know, the biphone worldview is connected one by one. As an example, when playing ‘Next Level’, two candidates come out with cards. The card is connected to the graphic of the heart card, ‘Capture the hearts of the people’. The graphics related to that card will continue next time,” he explained.

Just like Espa with a unique worldview, counting broadcasts apply a worldview

Then, why was Espa’s ‘next level’?

Reporter Kim said, “Espa is also an idol group with a unique worldview. Our biphone also set that it has its own worldview, so the candidates danced ‘next level’. It’s also a song, so I like it too.”

Did the candidates know they would dance to the ‘next level’?

Reporter Kim said, “I explained to the candidates while filming,” he said. Previously, in the ballot counting broadcasts, I filmed various things such as winning moves and losing moves, so I wonder if you didn’t think of it as something similar to those things.”

Reporter Kim said, “It was very difficult to set the characters for the two candidates and create a story. “We put a lot of work into the graphics,” he said.

When was the biggest hurdle? Reporter Kim replied, “At the end of the day, candidate Ahn Cheol-soo resigned and stayed up all night for the last week.

About 30 people, including 10 designers, 3 reporters, 2 writers, and 10 program development teams, joined for 9 months for the biphone work. After planning, designers needed to create graphics and apply real-time data, so a large-scale workforce was needed.

After the election, reporter Kim said, “I feel like I poured everything out. It was really hard. “I almost mightn’t go home a month before the election,” he said.

Reporter Kim said, “I was involved in everything from start to finish, so every graphic is like a child.” “The graphics of ‘Going to the Blue House’, the graphic of disco-pang-pang, and the graphic of ‘time of silence’, which is called ‘fire mong’, are especially difficult to shoot. I heard a lot,” he said.

But reporter Kim doesn’t seem to be able to rest comfortably. Reporter Kim said, “Everyone is looking forward to SBS’s election broadcast, so it’s a lot of pressure.” “The local elections are two and a half months away. I am under a lot of pressure,” he said. Please look forward to the local elections on June 1.”
