Russian forces intensify their offensive once morest the Ukrainian capital, Kiiu.
According to AFP and AP on the 10th local time, fierce battles between Russian and Ukrainian forces continue on every major highway leading to Kiiu.
A small town located on the northwest front of Kiiu has been devastated by continuous Russian bombardment.
Kiiwu administrative authorities said the northern outlying cities of Bucha, Irfin, Hostomer and Bisho Road are currently the most dangerous.
A fierce battle also took place on a highway just 5 km from the northeastern outskirts of Kiiwu.
A Ukrainian soldier, who named Sergi, told AFP that “there have been raids here over the last night,” and that “part of the road had to be destroyed to stop the Russian tanks.”
AFP reports that the remains of Russian tanks were scattered across the road.
After losing the engagement, the Russians re-encamped not far away.
A new engagement also began on the eastern front of the Dnipro River, which had been in a state of lull.
According to The Times, a video released by the Ukrainian army shows a group of Russian armored vehicles heading for the capital Kiiu being attacked by explosives.
Some of the tanks appear to have been destroyed or damaged by artillery or land mines.
Two hospitals in Zitomir, a city west of Kiiu, were also damaged by Russian shelling on that day.
Kiiu Mayor Vitali Klicichko said on state television that day, “The Russian military’s entry into Kiiu is being thwarted due to the resistance of the Ukrainian forces in areas such as Bucha, Irfin, Hostomer and Borzel.”
“Kiuu has become one huge fortress,” said Mayor Klicichko. “We fortified every street, every building, every driveway.”
“Citizens who have never been armed in their lives are voluntarily wearing military uniforms and holding guns,” he said.
“A little less than two million people, regarding half of the city’s total population, have left the city,” he added.
Russian forces have besieged, bombarded and bombarded major Ukrainian cities.
