On the 10th, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) announced that it will expand the number of recipients of HPV vaccination support from the 14th as part of the First Step Clinic for Healthy Women.
With this expansion, 290,000 female adolescents aged 13 to 17 (Jan. 2004 – December 31, 2008) and 100,000 women aged 18 to 26 (Jan. 1995 – Jan. 31, 2003) will receive support from low-income families. . Until now, the recipients of national support for HPV vaccination were limited to 12-year-old female adolescents.
Low-income women can receive assistance only if they are eligible for guaranteed benefits on the day of vaccination. You can get vaccinated by presenting the documents confirming the qualifications of basic livelihood security beneficiaries and the next lower class to public health centers and designated medical institutions.
Upon infection, HPV can progress to cervical cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, and anus-genital cancer. If you have been vaccinated following infection, it may be difficult to treat, so it is important to vaccinate before infection.
On the other hand, the number and interval of vaccination vary depending on age and type of vaccine. Authorities emphasized that when a new vaccine is administered, a doctor’s examination must be performed prior to the vaccination.
“In 2019, 3,273 people were diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 898 died from the same disease,” said Jung Eun-kyung, head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We hope that more women and adolescents will be vaccinated so that the health of more women and adolescents can be improved through a safe and cancer-preventable HPV vaccination.”
