PS5: Returnal, Forspoken, Exoprimal, … All about Sony’s State of Play announcements!

Game News PS5: Returnal, Forspoken, Exoprimal, … All regarding Sony’s State of Play announcements!

Rumors had predicted it: yes, there was indeed a State of Play during this month of March and, as always, impatience and rumors in the hallway raised the expectations of many players to a level , most certainly, too high. However, in the space of twenty minutes, Sony and PlayStation have shown us quite a bit. A little throwback to this amazing evening of March 9 and to the State of Play announcements!

Summary

  • A hot start…
  • … but absences that hurt
  • A tunnel of announcements and modest projects

For those who have forgotten: last night, from 11 p.m., there was a PlayStation event broadcast on YouTube and Twitch. Twenty minutes seemed short to evoke the myriad of titles that players are impatiently awaiting and, given the time allocated to this State of Play, players quickly said to themselves that the Japanese manufacturer was going to carefully use its cartridges and not reveal everything he keeps warm in reserve. In the end, the very large licenses were put aside and only the titles remained that had something concrete to offer us very soon as well as the licenses that will punctuate the PlayStation catalog in the weeks, or rather months, to come.

A hot start…

From the outset, Sony and PlayStation left the honor to a brand new license to open the ball of this State of Play which promised to be much richer in announcements than expected. Capcomone of the flagship Japanese publishers that the Japanese manufacturer alluded to in its message announcing the digital event last night, unsheathed Exoprimalunleashing a slew of dinosaurs in a veritable ball of visual effects. A shocking revelation which must, all the same, clarify these issues: beyond a shooter, Capcom’s game seems to rely on an important cooperative dimension and a hell of a dose of action. Scheduled for 2023, the title has plenty of time to reveal itself in dribs and drabs and convince players of its proposal before rushing on it on PS4 and PS5.

Surprised from the outset, the players were quickly brought back to familiar territory with a follow-up presentation of Ghostwire Tokyo, de Stranger of Paradise : Final Fantasy Origin and de Forspoken. On the one hand, Sony brings something tangible with the official trailer for the launch of the title from Tango Gameworks, expected for March 25, and the spin-off of Final Fantasy which returns to convince players of its foray into the field of gameplay “souls-esque” demanding, concocted by Team Ninja, with a third demo already available. Forspoken, meanwhile, makes amends with a new gameplay trailer which will delight the most disappointed players for a few minutes following the official postponement of the game at the very beginning of the week. And the Final Fantasy 35th Anniversary site in all of this? We must believe that it is still not the time to have something new.

… but absences that hurt

Twelve announcements in the space of twenty minutes, that’s enough to realize the frantic pace that Sony’s event took, where we might have hoped for a more calm presentation finally delivering information on God of War : Ragnarökthe various works of Bluepoint Games, the pending remakes and remasters (Bloodborne, Resident Evil 4…), the return of major manufacturer licenses (Sly Cooper, InFamous…). But for that, you will still have to wait even if Sony has rolled out the red carpet for one of its main exclusives: Returnal. Housemarque’s latest hit notably passed a head to present its free Ascension update : on the program, the Tower of Sisyphus, which will delight fans of challenges, and a cooperation mode which will no longer suffer alone, but in pairs!

At one point, we even thought we saw passing Ghost of Tsushima but it is not so: for the moment, Sucker Punch is not yet ready to reveal its future ambitions and prefers to give way to games like Trek to Yomi, whose aesthetic recalls Jin Sakai’s feudal excursion. Polished visuals, clashes with neat choreographies, an artistic touch in black and white of the most beautiful effect: the game published by Devolver Digital gave us a nice moment, as suspended as it was sharp, in a line-up that may not have convinced everyone. Until the end this State of Play played with our nerves and the last two announcements which saw Square Enix do a second round on stage came to shower the last hopes of a thunderous finale. There was definitely no Final Fantasy but there is J-RPG: a great novelty, namely The DioField Chronicle which we detail in more detail hereand an already very famous franchise, on the contrary, which is none other than Valkyrie Profile which returns, here, with a new adventure, at the crossroads of beat’em all and hack’n slash, named Valkyrie Elisium.

A tunnel of announcements and modest projects

A little surprise and a little concrete, but not really grandiloquence even if the public was assailed from the outset by Exoprimal. By focusing on a few Western announcements and leaving a large margin to Japanese developers and publishers, Sony quickly downgraded in the middle of the event to more modest announcements strongly steeped in popular culture.. From the last seconds of the trailer for ForspokenPlayStation has started a portion where successive projects like Gundam Evolutionto immerse us in a competitive and free-to-play FPS featuring the famous mechas, Ninja Turtles with TMNT : The Cowabunga Collectionan extremely plump compilation of no less than 13 games from the franchise to reptile fans of martial arts, or the illustrious manga JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure which will have the righthim too, to its video game adaptation (following Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Demon Slayer and others that we forget to mention) titled JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure : All-Star Battle R and which will feature a nice roster of around fifty characters from the different arcs.

During the Sony event, the title GigaBash also had the right to a few seconds of glory before handing over. The presentation was short, but intense in terms of pace of releases, even if expectations were not 100% met.. We can console ourselves by saying that all the games mentioned during this evening will soon arrive on our consoles, either during the current year or, at the latest, by 2023. In a way, enough to wait until the announcements that made us dream so much: the festivities will only be greater with the announcement of the next event of this kind, it remains to be seen now when PlayStation will really turn our brains around: as soon as possible, we hope.
