A photographer and a scenographer looked at how lives change when you win a lot… or lose.
Eight out of ten Belgians regularly play lottery games. 80% of Belgians therefore believe in their luck but also in bad luck, this final minute when we will not have validated the numbers that we nevertheless play every week and which come out just at that moment, this lost ticket … And yet, we continue to play, to believe in it, to dream of what we would do with all these millions earned, even when we are not playing. This relationship to money, to good fortune, to superstition, to lucky charms, these stories of big winners at the EuroMillions and the Lotto have interested two artists for years. One, Katherine Longly, is a photographer and visual artist, her exhibitions and books have won prizes. His touch: each project is built as a pretext to meet people, their stories and an underlying social reality. With photos, archives, tenderness and humor. The other is an author and scenographer. Friends, they like to play the lottery together but “Since this project, we had a very clear discussion regarding what we would do if we won a big sum. How we would share between our joint creations or not and each of us. With what we heard, it’s better“, they explain with a smile.
