Three weeks following an out-of-court settlement, a judge in New York dismissed the civil sexual assault lawsuit once morest Britain’s Prince Andrew. District Judge Lewis Kaplan signed the relevant court documents Tuesday following being asked to do so by attorneys for both parties hours earlier.
The preliminary agreement reached in mid-February provided, among other things, that the prince would pay a significant sum to the foundation of the plaintiff Virginia Giuffre. His lawyer said the prince acknowledged that Giuffre was not only a recognized victim of abuse, but also the target of unfair public attacks. The judge had given both parties until March 17 to implement the agreement.
Giuffre sued Queen Elizabeth II’s second son in August, saying she was forced into sexual encounters with the prince in 2001 by US millionaire Jeffrey Epstein and his longtime partner Ghislaine Maxwell. At that time she was 17 years old. The abuse occurred at Maxwell’s London home, Epstein’s New York mansion, and Epstein’s Virgin Islands home. Prince Andrew denied the allegations, saying he had no memory of ever meeting Giuffre.
