The garment was thus sold ten times more expensive than the price asked by Julien’s Auctions, which organized these auctions and had estimated it between 200,000 to 400,000 dollars (141,000 to 283,000 euros).
FUND FOR SICK CHILDREN
Part of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the animal reserve that hosted the two Bengal tigers owned by the singer. The buyer, Milton Verret, originally from Austin (Texas), already owns another Michael Jackson jacket as well as U2 guitars signed by the members of the group. He intends to exhibit the jacket of Thriller around the world to raise funds for sick children.
With a duration of almost fourteen minutes, the clip of Thriller, shot by John Landis for the release of the album of the same name in 1982, in which Jackson turns into a zombie and dances among other undead, is one of the most famous in the history of music popular. Two jackets, designed by the director’s wife, Deborah Landis, were used for this film. The other, damaged, is the property of the singer’s heirs.
The circumstances of Michael Jackson’s death continue to fuel conspiracy theories and legal battles. The star’s personal physician, Conrad Murray, is charged with manslaughter for administering the anesthetic Propofol to the singer, which caused his death. His lawyers should plead the thesis of suicide. The doctor admitted to having administered the drug, but at the request of the king of pop, who used it as a sleeping pill.
