Government warns of “very violent” 8M march
The capital government warned that the March 8 march for International Women’s Day will be very violent, due to the presence of groups that will carry dangerous devices such as Molotov cocktails and homemade bazookas. However, they are not going to repress, but rather to contain in case of acts that attempt once morest demonstrators and bystanders.
The head of the Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, said that violence is not combated with more actions of this type, and that even “violence is sexist”, so no one is going to be repressed. , but to contain, this in the presence of groups that use hammers and other tools, as well as pepper spray.
“Violence is not fought with violence, we do not agree with it; What’s more, violence is sexist, if you want to put it that way, violence has nothing to do with women’s rights. The capital’s president recalled that the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) will deploy more than 3,000 female police officers on the route of the march that will depart from the Angel of Independence to the capital’s Zócalo, and that the uniformed women will wear helmets, shields and fire extinguishers, these last because on other occasions they have tried to burn them.
Regarding the billboards placed in different places and monuments, such as the National Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Palace of Fine Arts, Sheinbaum Pardo said that they do not generate violence, but rather are a response to violent groups.
“Our obligation, as the City Government, is also to protect the historical monuments. We cannot allow them to break, so fences are put up because we cannot expose our fellow police officers either, ”she said at a press conference.
Later, the secretary of the capital’s government, Martí Batres Guadarrama, reported that a “very violent” march is expected, at least there is information that there are 15 groups organized to generate violence during the mobilization, carrying all kinds of dangerous artifacts.
He explained that they are collecting objects such as shears, pliers, blowtorches, hammers, picks, ice axes, axes, mallets, chains, tubes, homemade bazookas, Molotov cocktails, electric tasers, scissors to cut sheet metal, rockets, firecrackers, gasoline, thinner, knives, sticks and pepper spray, to name a few.
He commented that the violent groups are known, and that there are even journalistic investigations, and that in social networks they have announced their actions in each mobilization and different points of the capital, for which he recommended that the citizens who attend the march and passers-by Take the necessary precautions to protect yourself.
“We consider it our duty to inform citizens and public opinion, the capital society, of the activity of these groups with a certain unusual intensity to cause damage through violent actions tomorrow; and above all, due to the type of dangerous artifacts with which they consider or wish to attend tomorrow’s mobilization”.
