Russia announces new ceasefire for evacuation of civilians from Ukrainian towns

Russia announced a new ceasefire for the evacuation of civilians from the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy and Mariupol from 10 a.m. Moscow time (0700 GMT) on Tuesday.

The war launched by Russia once morest Ukraine on February 24 has drawn condemnation from the international community, led to financial sanctions once morest Moscow and caused the exodus of international companies from Russia. The West has also imposed draconian restrictions on the export of key technologies which are now banned from being sent to Russia.

According to the United Nations, at least 406 civilians have been killed and 801 injured in Ukraine since the start of the war. But the international body maintained that conditions on the ground made it “difficult to verify” the actual number of civilian casualties.

More than 1.7 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, according to the UN Refugee Agency.
