Ecuador is waiting for Russia to authorize the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to evacuate around a hundred Ecuadorians who are in Ukraine, Deputy Foreign Minister César Montaño said on Monday.
“We hope that the Russian government will give way to humanitarian corridors so that not only compatriots can be evacuated, but some other citizens of other countries, who are trapped in conflict zones,” he told the press.
He noted that they maintain permanent contact with the more than 140 Ecuadorians who are in the area east of Kiev, who have been asked to follow the instructions of the Ukrainian government in terms of protection, according to EFE.

“Kiev is surrounded, as long as the humanitarian corridor that several countries have requested from Russia is not given way, it is best that they remain in their protection sites,” he added.
For his part, Juan Carlos Holguín pointed out this Monday followingnoon that at the moment there are seven cases of Ecuadorians who are in a high-risk area.

“In the last 24 hours we have issued two emergency passports and we are working on what is known as Phase 3, which is to follow up on cases of interest and complexes,” said the Foreign Minister.
He also pointed out that they are planning a new humanitarian flight and that there are “166 Ecuadorians who would wait for that flight.”

“The third humanitarian flight would leave at the end of this week and would go to Warsaw and Budapest, and then return to Ecuador. We have the evacuation status minute by minute,” he indicated.
The Minister also indicated that the Ecuadorian embassy in Poland will reopen.
“We have made the decision to reopen our embassy in Poland, an embassy that was closed in 2014 without any technical support,” he said.
