The vice president of the government of Nicolás Maduro, Delcy Rodríguez, called this Monday for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine following more than a week of Russian occupation.
“We call for dialogue, for resolutions to be through peaceful mechanisms. They will never see us in the ranks of the war itself, or because of the war. They will always see us for the rights of the human being”, he claimed Rodríguez during a PSUV congress.
Meeting with US officials
Delcy Rodríguez’s statements come two days following a delegation of senior US officials, according to The New York Times and Archyde.com, met with Nicolás Maduro and her in Caracas.
The objective of the conversations would have been, on the part of the North American delegation, to evaluate the willingness of the Venezuelan government to distance itself from Russia, which would allow Washington to examine the possibility of Venezuela becoming an oil supplier, given the sanctions once morest Russia and its impact on the hydrocarbon market.
However, during his speech, Rodríguez maintained the government’s line of blaming NATO for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
