Samsung Electronics victim of a cyber attack, the data of its customers would not be affected

Samsung Electronics was the victim of a cyberattack and a data leak, the Korean manufacturer announced in the press on Monday (March 7th).

“According to our initial analyses, the leak concerns part of the source code relating to our [smartphones] Galaxy, but does not include the personal information of our customers or employees”has explained a spokesperson for the electronics giant told Bloomberg. In its press release, the company claims to have taken measures to prevent this type of incident in the future. It is not known whether the stolen data was ransom-demanded.

On Friday March 4, a South American group, Lapsus$, had published on its Telegram channel the links to 190 gigabytes of files, containing according to the hackers various source codes owned by Samsung Electronicsincluding the algorithms that operate the biometric unlocking of its phones.

Relatively unknown until a few months ago, the Lapsus$ group claimed responsibility for a cyberattack once morest the Brazilian Ministry of Health in December. Since then, he had also targeted the Portuguese press group Impresa, as well as the South American communication companies Claro and Embratel. At the end of February, the graphics card manufacturer Nvidia had also been the subject ofa massive data theft, claimed by Lapsus$.
