Max Verstappen had revealed that he sent a message to Michael Masi following the final in Abu Dhabi, in order to support him in the face of the many criticisms that swept on social networks or forums concerning the decisions taken at the end of the race.
The world champion, who is making a new point before the submission of the FIA report expected in a week, still believes that his dismissal by the Federation was “very unfair” and has since sent the Aussie another message.
“I said what happened to Michael is very unfair and I still sincerely believe that. The FIA was pressed to make a decision. I wrote him a message regarding it, to support him, as I told him. wrote following the finale when I saw the reviews.”
“I told him we don’t always agree on everything, but that’s racing. We’ve always wanted to improve the sport as a whole.”
“Nobody is perfect, but what has always been mentioned, as a prerequisite for decisions, is that the priority should go to the race, not to unnecessary laps behind a safety car. We needed this state of mind and Michael had it.”
Masi became race director following serving as Charlie Whiting’s assistant, so he was well trained but was thrown too brutally into the deep end following the former race director’s sudden death.
“For Michael to take this position following Charlie was a difficult task. Everyone needs help. I have the whole team around me. Michael maybe needed more people around him, but he never had one. And he won’t have the opportunity to demonstrate what he can do with a team around him. For me, it’s unfair to have him buried like that, without another chance. “
“I don’t know if we will see him once more on the circuits,” continued the Red Bull driver.
“Anyway he enjoyed my message. He’s had a few more. It’s all still very fresh for him. I’ve had my hot moments with the Stewards but at the end of the day you have to respect each other “You don’t always have to agree. The goal is to make racing better, more exciting but also fair.”
