Olivier Giroud scored a second-half goal to lead AC Milan back to the top of Serie A with a 1-0 away win over Napoli.
And coach Stefano Pioli’s team now has 60 points at the top, two points behind rivals and neighbors Inter Milan, the defending champion, who played one game less, while three points ahead of Napoli, third.
Chances were few in a tense match between the two teams, and Napoli hit only two shots on goal during the 90 minutes of play at Diego Armando Maradona’s stadium.
After a mediocre first half and without much danger, Giroud scored the only goal following meeting a cross from Davide Calabria four minutes following the start of the second half.
Adam Ounass missed a chance for Napoli, and his colleague Hirving Lozano got another chance, but he failed to equalize near the end.
Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina starred and saved two attempts from Theo Fernandez and Alexis Salmikers in the last minutes.
Earlier on Sunday, Juventus consolidated its position in the top-four with a 1-0 win over Spezia with Alvaro Morata’s goal, who netted in the league for the first time in the new year.
