Questioned by AFP, the management of the Rennes site of Stellantis confirmed that it had announced to the employees the shutdown of the factory “for one week from Monday”, during an extraordinary social and economic committee (CSE) on Friday morning.
“We are still in the context of the shortage of semiconductors with supplies under tension”, explains the management. “We have a central crisis unit that manages our supplies and parts and (these parts) are currently missing”, added management.
The site will be “completely stopped” and “the employees will be in partial activity”. Management also offered those concerned to be on RTT on Thursday and Friday.
Management confirms that temporary workers will also be affected: “There will be an advance of 56 euros per day of work not carried out to limit the impact on their income”.
Faced with the semiconductor crisis, the CEO of Stellantis Carlos Tavares said he hoped “visibility following the summer of 2022”, remind management.
“The war in Ukraine is not a direct cause of this lack of parts, but the management does not hide its fears of possible impacts in the future linked to this conflict”, said the CFDT in a press release.
“With 13 days not worked out of 15 in a worrying geopolitical context, employee morale is at half mast and we are crossing our fingers for a better future”highlighted Laurent ValyCFDT secretary of the CSE of PSA-La Janais.
Management will confirm no later than Sunday March 13 the resumption of activity on Monday.
PSA-La Janais, located south of Rennes, employs some 2,000 people and temporary workers. The plant, which has two shifts, usually produces 400 vehicles a day – Citroën C5 Aircross and Peugeot 5008.
