The Swiss women’s giant slalom team was only able to achieve five top 10 results this winter. Lara Gut-Behrami and Michelle Gisin provided the highlights with a podium place each. The Ticino, who won the bronze medal in the giant slalom at the Olympic Games in Beijing, decided not to start in Lenzerheide. Gut-Behrami told SRF shortly before the race that she caught a blow while driving in and wanted to recharge her batteries until the season finale in Courchevel.
So Gisin, Holdener and Co. had to pull the coals out of the fire at the home race. The starting position for the second race gives us hope, because both Gisin (7th) and Holdener (9th) were able to place in the top 10. Camille Rast (16th), Simone Wild (22nd) and Andrea Ellenberger (23rd) will also be at the start in the second round.

The Olympic champion Sara Hector, who leads in the giant slalom classification, showed her best side once more today. She completed the demanding course on the Silvano Beltrametti piste the fastest, just beating Shiffrin and Worley into second and third place. The three were in a league of their own and are within 16 hundredths of a second following the first run. The starting point for the decisive run might hardly have been more exciting. Petra Vlhova, who is fighting for the big crystal globe with Shiffrin in the overall World Cup, was one of many riders who failed in the first run.
