Sony teams up with Honda to create electric cars

The global electronics giant Sony, plans in collaboration with the manufacturer Honda to launch a joint company, for the design and sale of electric cars. The project has not yet been finalized, but the two entities have signed a memorandum of understanding.

Faced with technological advances integrated into vehicles, more and more manufacturers of electronics or smartphones are entering the automotive industry. It is thus around Sony to consider its entry into the segment of electric cars.

Indeed, the Japanese manufacturer has joined forces with the manufacturer Honda and announced the creation of a joint venture for the manufacture and sale of electric cars. As a reminder, Sony had already unveiled a Vision-S electric sedan at CES 2020, then the Vision-S 02 SUV.

The idea of ​​the partnership is to combine the skills of the two companies, with Honda designing, manufacturing and marketing the first model, while Sony will take care of the platform and mobility services.

“Sony’s goal is to ‘fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology. Through this alliance with Honda, which has accumulated vast global experience and achievements in the automotive industry over many years and continues to make groundbreaking advances in this field, we intend to build on our vision of ‘to make the mobility space an emotional space’, and to contribute to the evolution of mobility centered on safety, entertainment and adaptability”. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida said in a statement.
