Kia wins its first ‘Car of the Year’ trophy with the EV6

The “Car of the Year” trophy is highly sought following by car manufacturers, especially in these times of scarcity for the industry. In 2022, Kia wins the precious badge, a first for the Korean brand.

The suspense was intense, but the ceremony held in Geneva — without its traditional motor show — finally crowned Kia’s EV6 as car of the year ! The electric vehicle overtakes another, Renault’s Mégane E-Tech, while third place goes to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5. All electric models, a sign of the times of the forced march of the entire automotive sector.

Electric vehicles very well represented

For Kia, this is a first that will allow it to display the precious reward in its communication. Drivers who are currently looking to afford a good electric car will certainly be attracted to the EV6, an “innovative” SUV according to the jury made up of journalists from the European automotive press.

« The Kia brand reinvented itself at the start of last year with a new name, a new logo and a new design philosophy called Opposites United “, explains the organization. ” The EV6 is the first vehicle launched in this new direction, as well as Kia’s first electric vehicle using the new E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) platform. ».

The jury salutes the estimated autonomy of 482 kilometers, the level of connectivity and safety, the driving assistance systems, the use of durable materials for the interior cabin. The EV6 offers up to 576 horsepower in its GT version, which will be available later this year. Currently, Kia offers 58 kWh and 77.4 kWh versions, for prices starting at around €50,000.

The rest of the prize list is squatted by electric cars: only the Peugeot 308 with combustion engine is one of the seven named in the last four! Apart from the three models on the podium, the other vehicles are the Mustang Mach-E (Ford), the Cupra Born and the Enya iV (Skoda).
