Donations for effective humanitarian aid to Ukraine

In the face of escalating violence, the DRC is gradually expanding, where possible, its sister societies in Ukraine and neighboring countries. The first major transport of aid with 88 tons of aid, which started on Tuesday from the DRK logistics center in Schönefeld, arrived in Lubmin, Poland, yesterday evening. “We know that the German population is deeply concerned regarding the horrific events in Ukraine, and that they also want to offer support to the people affected. It is overwhelming to see how quickly and enthusiastically civil society in Germany is willing to help at all levels. This applies to countless private individuals, small and large initiatives, companies and, of course, to all our voluntary and full-time Red Cross workers. But even if it may seem less personal and intangible to many, monetary donations are actually the best and most effective way to support humanitarian aid abroad in the current situation,” says DRK Secretary General Christian Reuter.

In the current situation, monetary donations are much more effective than donations in kind: Their big advantage is that they can be used very flexibly. This allows humanitarian aid to be tailored more specifically to local needs. This is absolutely necessary in situations that are constantly changing and highly unpredictable, as is currently the case in Ukraine and its neighboring countries. Otherwise there is a risk that the heavily used logistics and assistance structures will be blocked and that storage, transport and sorting capacities will be overburdened. On the part of our sister companies on site, there is currently no capacity to accept aid deliveries and offers of support that have not been centrally agreed or requested.

We would therefore be very happy if you would support us with a donation for the affected population:
